Spring Startup
Charging the system slowly, checking every head, and finding the winter damage before it floods a flower bed for three weeks.
Typical range $65 - $150Season: April through May
What the job actually involves
Startup is where last winter shows up. Pressurizing too fast is its own hazard, so the supply is opened slowly to avoid a water hammer through a system that has been empty for five months. Then every zone runs while someone actually walks it, looking for cracked heads, blown seals, geysers from a split lateral, and nozzles that are watering the sidewalk instead of the lawn.
What moves the price
- Zone count, which is the single biggest factor on most jobs
- Whether the backflow assembly is above ground or in a buried box
- Access, including locked gates, dogs, and boxes buried under sod
- How late in the season you call, since October pricing is demand pricing
